- This section is under construction and needs to exist expanded. You tin can help by expanding it.
Wrench first appears in the introductory mission, watching Marcus work his way through the CTOS server farm with the other DedSec members and asking questions about him. Subsequently Marcus deletes his contour and escapes the facility, Wrench shoves a bag over his head and forces him into a van. Afterwards, on a beach, Marcus is introduced to the team and they celebrate his becoming a DedSec fellow member by drinking beer and partying. When Marcus arrives at the hackerspace the next morning, Wrench introduces him to the Research app and the 3D Printer.
Sometime subsequently that, Wrench chosen Marcus and told him that the CyberDriver trailer had been released, and asked him to come dorsum to the hackerspace to watch it. While he and Marcus appreciated the trailer for fun, Sitara and (especially) Josh found it mundane and insulting of hacker culture. While DedSec launches Performance: Hack and Run, Marcus steals Chip and brings it to Wrench's garage hackerspace, where the team fixes up the car for a publicity stunt. Wrench is seen preparing the car while Marcus remotely pilots the vehicle through the streets of San Francisco.
Events of Bloodline
Before the events of Bloodline, Wrench was contacted by French businessman Thomas Rempart, CEO of Rempart Automated Defense Systems SA, a French private security firm specializing in robotic forces. While Wrench harbored his own misgivings nigh Rempart due to his vast wealth & condition, he believed in Rempart's lies well-nigh improving the future of humanity, and therefore agreed to assist in designing the hardware for the MK1 robots. Somewhere along the line, Rempart stole Wrench's technology and cut all ties with Wrench, assertive he had served his purpose and was no longer useful.
Feeling betrayed past Rempart, Wrench decided to accept revenge by ruining Rempart on a massive scale. Using specially developed cloaking technology, and several other modified weapons, Wrench infiltrated the Broca Tech deep labs and attempted to steal the BrocaBridge, a device developed by Broca Tech that would facilitate the MK2'southward brain-machine interface. Equally Rempart had already sold a million units of the MK2 to the United kingdom government (and the loss of the BrocaBridge would render them fundamentally useless), this would put Rempart in alienation of contract, with a fine of approximately a billion pounds.
At the same time nevertheless, Louis-Edmond Rempart, both Thomas Rempart'southward father and chairman of Rempart SA's lath of directors, contacted the Fixers. Every bit Thomas's deportment in London were non sanctioned by Rempart'south board of directors, the board had no thought what Thomas was up to. Thus, they hired Aiden Pearce to find out what was going on. Having successfully stolen the BrocaBridge, Wrench left a message for Rempart at a Tidis/Rempart facility he had previously attacked. In the message, he revealed that he knew all about Thomas's scam with the MK2s and what the loss of the BrocaBridge would do to his company. Wrench then go along to taunt Rempart by threating to destroy the BrocaBridge with his sledgehammer, before narrowly missing it. He then revealed that he had much grander plans, and that he planned to reverse-engineer the BrocaBridge, and and so upload the schematics for the MK2 to the internet for free, delivering a devastating blow to Rempart's business model.
Wrench subsequently developed a false BrocaBridge that was rigged to explode, the real ane was placed in limbo in the London postal service. Wrench and then allowed Aiden Pearce to take this false BrocaBridge to Rempart, which managed to injure Rempart'due south confront upon detonation. Afterwards he provided an escape vehicle for Aiden Pearce and Jackson Pearce and delivered them from Rempart tower to his safehouse. He then proceeded to acquire medical supplies for the so comatose Aiden Pearce.
Afterwards, Wrench and so performed a job at the behest of Jordi Mentum, which involved the devastation of several Rempart servers. After completion of the job, Jordi revealed Louis-Edmond Rempart as the customer who hired Aiden, and that the board now wished to erase all trace of Thomas Rempart's deportment in London and move him to a section where he could do no damage, equally his deportment in London threatened the conglomerate. This meant that if Thomas Rempart did not acquire the BrocaBridge, the inevitable fallout would be blamed on him and him alone in order to protect the company.
Skye Larsen, CEO of Broca Tech, then contacted Wrench, offering to assist him in reviving Aiden Pearce from his coma, in commutation for immigration Rempart's forces out of the Broca Tech Deep Labs. Wrench and Jackson accepted, seeing no other possible alternative. Later on immigration Rempart's forces from the deep labs, Rempart called Wrench to gloat that he had already acquired what he came in that location to practice. Larsen then revealed that she did not reach out to Wrench in order to cure Aiden, but rather to exam the BrocaBridge on him. Wrench protested that such a cure was insane, and that he and Jackson should detect a amend style. Jackson refused and entered Aiden'southward mind in lodge to revive him from his coma.
After reviving Aiden from his coma, Wrench attempted to track down Rempart to exact his revenge. Wrench then proceeded to locate Rempart's individual barge, and disabled its engines to foreclose it from reaching international waters. Upon reaching the barge'southward cargo concord, Rempart go along to activate a prototype MK2 robot and began to pilot it through jury-rigged Brocatech technology. With the MK2, Rempart attempted to kill Wrench, but he was stopped through the combined efforts of both Pearces and Wrench's weaponry. Upon reaching Rempart'south cabin, Wrench destroyed his Brocatech controller, and proceeded to berate Rempart for his abandonment of his "dream." Rempart responded past saying that he had lied to Wrench and that he was going to go become after all of Wrench's friends in California. Wrench responded by knocking Rempart out and delivering him into Albion custody.
Appearance
Wrench is a slim, average top man. His appearance is mainly inspired by punk rock civilisation. His clothing consists of a blackness spiked leather mask with an LED visor, a spiked vest with attached patches and pins, a blackness DedSec hoodie, ripped denim jeans, a red spiked bracelet, black strapped bracelets, and black studded leather sneakers.
Wrench'due south mask and mechanical goggles appear to "blink" emotes and various eye expressions, and the mask features a voice modulator that gives his vocalism a more than robotic tone. The goggles can likewise project multiple pixelated symbols and appear to be made of many small, foursquare-shaped bulbs. Wrench likewise has a series of tattoos on his arms influenced past Cyberculture. His belong shows a sewed patch inspired past the "y u no" meme on the right side, and an "chaos" symbol tattooed on his neck. He has boosted tattoos on his tummy and dorsum, which are visible when he attends Swelter Skelter in costume during Looking Glass.
While attention the Swelter Skelter fest, he wears his trademark mask, a hood that features a big mohawk, a black motorbike vest, a black human being-thong with a spiked forepart, spiked kneepads, and black shoes.
Wrench's face is revealed when he is deprived of his mask during W4TCHED. He has a big, prominent port-wine stain birthmark around his left eye.[1] He has bluish eyes and light brown pilus. Interestingly, during the mission Motherload, he wears spiked shoulder-pads and spiked knee pads despite not wearing them in whatever cutscenes earlier the mission. Information technology's possible that he put them on just for that mission, or developers forgot to remove them from the controllable model. In Bloodline, he removes his mask and reveals his face to Aiden to prove he is trustworthy plenty, saying "No Mask, No Wrench, Only Reggie."
Personality
Wrench has a wild and humorous personality, as seen in a cutscene where he is trying to get a chip from a toaster; instead of properly taking it apart he smashes it with a sledgehammer instead. However, he appears to also be one of the more than ambitious members of DedSec, as seen in the Globe Premiere trailer in which one of his dialogue to Marcus says that they are at war with everyone, including puppies. His aggression extends to his strategic thinking - during False Profits, he suggests making up a lie about the New Dawn church building to discredit them before Sitara and Marcus counter that the risks would outweigh the rewards. He has an affinity for spikes or a punk aesthetic, as seen by his choice in clothing. He has gone to some parties in his life sipping beer under his mask. Some people say they actually have seen him without the mask but he prefers to deny it.
According to an in-game audio log, the FBI developed a psychological profile of him and determined him to accept a troubled, peradventure traumatic babyhood. Every bit such, he is socially awkward effectually women, has problem carrying his emotions, and wears his trademark mask as a "billboard" to show how he feels (1 FBI amanuensis even likened this to Roy Orbison'south utilize of sunglasses). In another in-game sound log plant in the original hackerspace, Horatio mentions that Wrench wears his mask to dodge CTOs'due south facial recognition, merely probably has a deeper reason such every bit hiding from a dangerous past.
He is as well very crude, as in the mission Haum Sweet Haum, he tells Marcus to get the Haum 2.0 Aught-Day before "some do-gooder white hat tells Haum how to... cockblock [them]" and at the very end of his portion of the Motherload mission, upon destroying Blume'due south fill-in servers he tells Marcus "I came, I saw, I blew shit up, I came over again." Wrench also has a passion for rock music.
In Bloodline, it is revealed that Wrench is bisexual, with him having a former husband, Zane. At this point, Wrench seems to be more than open up with his feelings and emotions, and also seems to be more comfortable with showing his face.
Relationships
Marcus Holloway
While he is manifestly friends with the entirety of the DedSec coiffure, Wrench grew especially close to Marcus Holloway due to their mutual love of Jimmy Siska movies, sci-fi, activity films, and their different but uniform senses of humor. They grew especially close during the events of W4TCHED, in which Marcus developed newfound intimacy with Wrench later returning his mask (a very personal detail of Wrench's; one that an FBI agent described equally "a totem") to him when both the FBI and Dusan Nemec stole it from him for the sole purpose of psychologically intimidating Wrench.
Another prominent example of their friendship is in the DLC mission Moscow Gambit where, later learning the Bratva kidnapped Marcus and tried to kill him with a car crusher, Wrench angrily punched a pigsty in a nearby wall. Once Marcus returned to the Hackerspace, Wrench hugs him tightly, clearly relieved that Marcus is live.
For up to a year and a half earlier the events of Bloodline, Wrench fell out of bear on with Marcus as a outcome of spending too much time with his new husband Zane and at his new job with Rempart. Wrench felt very guilty and lonely for non maintaining contact with Marcus, only was too nervous to contact him back later on so long, to the indicate that Wrench would repeatedly listen to old voicemails Marcus had left him over the months. In the mission London Culling, Marcus surprises Wrench with the opportunity to picture stunts for Jimmy Siska'due south upcoming action motion-picture show Devon five. Devin, and the two of them resolve to outset hanging out again.
Sitara Dhawan
Being a member of DedSec, Wrench respected Sitara equally both a friend and a capable hacker who brought her talents for art, spoken communication, and programming to the forefront of DedSec's public image and operational chapters. They practice seem to have a fairly playful side to their human relationship, as Sitara one time teased Wrench when a Prime_Eight doxxing list suggested Wrench's real proper name to exist Reginald.
Josh Sauchak
Wrench also respected Josh as a talented hacker, however, their relationship was not without their disagreements and misunderstandings. For example, during a cutscene in the mission Haum Sweet Haum, Josh and Wrench could briefly be seen arguing earlier Marcus broke them upward. Generally, though, Wrench got along with Josh.
Horatio Carlin
Wrench'south interactions with Horatio were minimal, to say the to the lowest degree. This is not to say Wrench didn't think highly of Horatio, however; at the end of the mission Eye For An Eye, Wrench mourned his expiry, noting that the Tezcas could accept come subsequently any ane of the DedSec crew members.
Raymond "T-Bone" Kenney
Wrench'south relationship with T-Bone was rocky from the first, with their initial greetings being sly but passive-aggressive compliments of each other'south' hat and mask. This became even more tumultuous when T-Bone proposed using Wrench Jr. equally a institute to detonate an EMP inside of a Tidis facility, a suggestion that Wrench vehemently despised; so much so that when Marcus agreed to it, he virtually compromised his friendship with Marcus. Past the end of the game'due south story, however, he eventually learned to get along well with T-Bone.
Aiden Pearce
Wrench's human relationship with Pearce, as seen in Bloodline, starts off as a rivalry, every bit the two battle over the BrocaBridge. Wrench becomes responsible for a piece of shrapnel getting lodged inside Aiden's chest; still. every bit the two become closer. they become accomplices. Wrench ends up helping Jackson revive Aiden from a coma with the aid of Skye Larsen, showing his respect for him.
Jordi Chin
Jordi's relationship with Wrench begins when Jordi accuses Wrench of kidnapping Aiden Pearce. Since Aiden is incapacitated, Jordi offers Fixer Contracts to Wrench. Wrench and Jordi and so worked together to destroy Thomas Rempart's shipments. Following this, Jordi offers further Wrench Fixer Contracts that the player tin consummate as side missions, as Wrench.
Zane
During the events of Bloodline, it is revealed that Wrench is bisexual and had a husband, Zane, prior to coming to London. The beginning inclination towards this is a scratched out middle with the name Zane in it, that is on a table in Wrench's hideout. Later on in the DLC, Wrench mentions how he busted up Zane's car after they divorced. In the side quests with Marcus, Marcus asks if Wrench is doing okay later the divorce, merely Wrench refuses to say Zane's name and says that he tin can fall down a well for all he cares, suggesting the breakup between the two was bad. In an audio log sent past Marcus, Marcus again asks if Wrench is okay and suggests that he should hookup with a guy Marcus knows, who drives monster trucks.
Skills and Abilities
- Loftier Intelligence: He is extraordinarily intelligent, despite him having anarchistic outbursts. He was able to create Wrench Jr. thanks to his engineering skills.
- Hacking Skills: Similar any DedSec member, he is a very skilled hacker. He fifty-fifty has a profile of his own for CTOS manipulation. According to one FBI audio log, Wrench'due south hacking skills are mostly self-taught despite its high-quality level.
- Combat Skills: Despite being scrawny, he is a brutal combatant, preferring explosives, and heavy weapons. This is nigh likely due to his violent and unconventional personality.
- Athletic Skills: He is good at parkour, like Marcus.
- Demolitions Expertise: According to Horatio (when he's describing himself, Sitara, Josh, and Wrench to Marcus in the beginning), while Wrench is expert at coding, he'due south improve at breaking things autonomously than putting them together. This is clearly shown in the DLC mission Moscow Gambit, where Wrench rigs vacant Bratva houses with explosives that release fireworks which come together to course a DedSec logo, and in his portion of the Motherload mission, where he uses explosives and grenade launchers as part of his armory (and apparently has an infinite supply of ammunition for his guns).
Audio Logs
During the mission W4TCHED, three Audio Logs left by FBI members well-nigh Wrench can be heard.
Audio Log #1
"The subject is remarkable in that he wears a mask at all times. The mask prevents our facial recognition software from determining his identity. Nosotros have besides run several vocal passes, the results are indeterminate as to region and upbringing. His piece of work is that of a high-level, admitting cocky-taught, hacker whose calling card often involves rough jokes left encoded into his target's core program."
Audio Log #ii
"Previous to his DedSec involvement, the subject known as Wrench mostly pursued cyber-attacks of dubious humanistic value. Changing website text to verbiage, often using bathroom humor. This sort of boyish acting-out has transformed as he has become more than deeply involved in DedSec. He now operates within a squad, generally pursuing either corporate or political targets. The subject area is considered unsafe."
Audio Log #3
"As for DedSec member Wrench. Surveillance indicates that he is awkward around the opposite sex and uses his mask as a deflecting device. A psych analysis postulates a disrupted childhood along with possible debilitating shyness. Discipline copes with this using the mask which he has programmed to reflect his emotions as a sort of electronic billboard. Inside the world in which the subject operates, this solution is considered ingenious."
Horatio's Written report #3
Additionally, Horatio Carlin recorded an audio log detailing Wrench'southward involvement in DedSec, which can be found in the San Francisco hackerspace.
"The Wrench...homo...what to say about this guy? Some freaky shit going on right there. I'd like to say he's really a sensitive, charming guy below the harsh exterior, simply I'1000 pretty sure he'south a "fucked upwards motherfucker" all the way through. I don't fifty-fifty know who first recruited him, he just started showing upwards at local hackerspaces and building his "tools of destruction". At first, I thought he was trying too hard... like he was an FBI plant or something... but no agent's going to pull the kind of suicidal stunts this guy does. I think the truth is... Wrench doesn't care if he dies, simply he's non going quietly. Even so... I'm glad nosotros've got the Wrench on our side. Ane of the grouping's biggest problems is a lack of GSD...Gettin' Shit Done. The Wrench is pure GSD and he brings his own sledgehammer. He'south not some dumb thug, either... I've seen some of his code--he's legit. Probably why he'due south interested in DedSec and not some street gang. You know what, I take that dorsum. He might actually belong to a street gang. Who knows. 1 thing I do know about Wrench... the man hates Blume. I mean HATES them. I tin't get the "why" from him. It's obvious he wears the mask to avoid the facial recognition, only what'southward he hiding FROM? He'due south not saying."
